Tools Exhibition Case Coverups

Environmental Graphic Design and Illustration

Temporary graphics to cover recently installed casework, advertising an upcoming exhibition

The graphics are printed on a semi-opaque material allowing light from the inside of the casework to pass through, creating a lightbox effect.

Set to open in 2024, the upcoming tools exhibition had it’s casework installed by Helmut Guenschel, Inc. in late 2021. To cover the empty glass cases and advertise the upcoming exhibition, I created a series of illustrated panels, each with a brief explanatory text. These 12 graphics feature 11 life-size silhouette illustrations of different types of colonial woodworkers and key steps in the carpentry process. The illustrations are designed create the impression that they are relief carved into wood. The content of each panel connects with the next, while being physically separate, allowing the casework to be opened for maintenance.
